Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Gen) vs ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium
Both are premium thermostats with a room sensor in the box, and both work with Apple Home. They differ in what else they do and in which voice assistant they favor.

The Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Gen) is the better pick for most homes and for Google Home, because it builds and adjusts its own schedule and is Matter certified. The ecobee Premium is better for Alexa homes that want air quality alerts and a speaker on the wall.

Best for
A home with a regular-ish routine and a heating bill worth attacking.
Someone who wants the thermostat to also be the air quality monitor and the hallway speaker.
Works with most 24 V systems; no C-wire needed in most homes, per Google
Comes with a Nest Temperature Sensor (2nd gen)
Asks before changing your schedule
Matter compatible; voice through Alexa, Siri or Google speakers
ecobee Premium
Power Extender Kit for homes without a C-wire
SmartSensor in the box; radar occupancy sensing
Air quality alerts and filter reminders
Alexa or Siri built in; Siri needs an Apple home hub
The deciding question
Do you want the thermostat to be a thermostat, or a small hallway hub? Nest is the better pure thermostat and fits Google homes. ecobee does more on the wall, and its extras, such as smoke alarm listening, can need an ecobee subscription. Both makers publish compatibility checkers; run yours before ordering either.

Matter certification is new for this generation, which is what finally lets an Apple Home household buy a Nest.
Remote temperature sensors fix the single biggest complaint about every thermostat: the hallway is not the bedroom.
It builds a schedule by watching, which matters because almost nobody ever programs a thermostat by hand.

Air quality alerts and furnace filter reminders come from a device you already have to mount on a wall, which is an efficient use of the wall.
Alexa or Siri is built into the speaker, so the hallway gets voice control without another puck on a shelf. Siri needs an Apple home hub in the house.
A SmartSensor comes in the box, so the thermostat can favor the rooms you are actually in rather than the hallway.
Skip this ifyour household runs on Google Assistant, the Nest 4th Gen integrates more cleanly. Smoke alarm listening needs an ecobee subscription, and there is no SmartThings support listed.
